Melanoma

Melanoma is considered the most serious type of skin cancer. While it can appear anywhere on the body, it is most commonly present on the back, legs, scalp, neck and behind the ears. Nearly 40% of all melanomas develop from atypical moles, so it’s important to be familiar with the moles on your body and conduct monthly self-examinations.

Simply remember the ABCD’s of melanoma when examining your moles:

• A = Asymmetry of outline
• B = Border irregularity
• C = Color irregularity
• D = Diameter greater than 6mm
